This question of which broths can I buy if I don't want to make my own? was asked in another thread and I decided to post it as a separate topic as well, so that people could search/find the topic easily. So here's my answer:
All of the broths I've seen packaged in tetra-paks are no good for an elemental diet because they contain thickeners. Basically, if the broth is clear, you can have it, but if it's cloudy, they've added something.
Many natural grocers now make organic chicken broth from scratch and sell it in either the meat or deli section - and it is just clear broth. That's the best way to get it, but much more expensive than making your own.
Don't forget, if you don't want to buy or cook a whole organic chicken to make your broth, you can usually buy cheaper organic chicken parts and boil those up to make broth. Today I brought organic chicken backs and necks for $1.47/package - 2 is all I need to make a whole pot of broth. If your local organic store doesn't sell these, ask the butcher as they can most likely package some up for you - many stores don't sell them as they think there's no demand, but they do have the chicken parts, if you ask.
take care,
Jini
