ABSORBPLUS and LTYG protein shake mentioned, p.124

Postby ssr on Thu Apr 26, 2007 5:18 pm

Hello again,

Quick question regarding protein shakes: I am looking for something easy to digest and with minimum additives. Absorbplus sounds great, except for the maltodextrin and fructose. Most maltodextrin is made from corn which I seem to have a problem with, and I was off the charts on a fructose intolerance test (have not had fruit for years) so am nervous about the fructose. If Jini or anyone else has information that would change my mind, I would love to hear it!!

Also, in LTYG, p. 124, Jini mentions a protein shake called 'Proteins+' by ehn company. I have searched the internet and cannot find this. Does anyone know about it?

Last, if anyone knows of a good, plain shake other than the two I am asking about, please let me know.

again, thanks so much!

Hi, Susan.

You're in luck! You'll find answers in a post Jini recently answered on the IBD Remission Diet forum.

Here's the link:

Wow! Thanks so much, Nicole...this is great. I try to dig around the forums to find things, but would have missed this for sure. This helps tremendously! I do wonder about the raw eggs...any thoughts on dehydrated egg whites? There is a pure product called 'Just Whites' that is certainly high in protein. Also---I cook allot, but don't know if one can use arrowroot as a thickener (substitute for the maltodextrin) without cooking it. It is easy to digest and sits well with me. If you or anyone knows about this, please let me know.

From Jini's address in the post you attached, I found the Genuine Health website for purchasing Protein+, so that is a help others might want to know about.

www.genuinehealth.com

Thanks again!! Hope you are doing well.

Hi, Susan.

Thanks for sharing the website for buying the Proteins+. That's terrific!

I honestly don't know how well arrowroot will work as a thickener without cooking. Try it with a really small amount of something (so if it doesn't work well, not much gets wasted) and let us know, if you will. Might help somebody else, too.

I was hesitant about raw eggs, myself. To be honest, I wasn't worried about salmonella or other pathogens. My brother keeps hens (RI Reds & Araucanas....my kids compete for those green eggs!) and while he does give them regular "scratch" feed, they're able to go outside in a good-sized run. So they get to be in the sunshine and fresh air, take dust baths and scratch around the yard and garden for little bugs and things that chickens like. (One of the funniest sights in the world is to listen to my brother call....in a very silly voice...., "Ladies!" and see a bunch of chickens come running over on the double. They know that means a treat!) So anyway, the eggs wouldn't qualify to be called certified organic or anything, but they're free (which is nice!) and I know those chickens are healthy. But the idea of raw eggs was just disgusting to me!

I gulp down two teaspoons of cod liver oil in a shot glass every day and that doesn't bother me at all, but the idea of raw eggs gave me shivers!

Based on Dr. Mercola's recommendation on their high nutrition, I finally got up the gumption to try a couple in a milk shake type drink for a snack and the truth is, it wasn't bad at all. I couldn't even taste them and if I hadn't been the one to make the shake, I wouldn't even have known there were eggs in it.

I used to use Just Whites for baking, whenever a recipe called for egg whites only. My only problem with it was how difficult it was to get the powder to dissolve into the specified amount of water without having a bunch of lumps. So I don't know how that might be to drink. I know the lumps would bother me....

But if the idea appeals to you, give the product a try and see how it works for you.

Thanks again for finding that website!

I'm enjoying the nice spring weather and working hard to get my garden in shape for the season. Hope you're doing well, too!
