Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has used, heard or can comment on a product i stumbled accross called Digestrol http://www.micronutra.com/digestrol

It all sounds interesting and i am up for giving any natural product a go. It seems more for the IBS patient though it may aid with my diarreah as due to colitis.

Any comments on this would be great, as i am in Australia it may be more common to you people in the U.S.

Thanks,
Paul :?

Digestrol

Postby Nicole on Tue Apr 10, 2007 2:51 pm

Hi, Paul.

I've never used this product nor do I know anyone who has, so I really can't comment from an experiential point of view.

Maybe I missed it, but I went through the webpage twice and could not find a list of ingredients. If in fact, they really do not disclose the ingredients on their website, that would make me, personally, cautious about buying it.

However, definitely use your own judgment. If you try it and it works well for you, please post here so that others can benefit from your experience....

Sincerely,
Nicole

Digestive enzymes

Postby Nicole on Wed Apr 11, 2007 10:47 am

Hi, Paul.

Well, they're basically digestive enzymes. The silica, di-calcium phosphate and magnesium stearate are there to coat the capsule and as fillers.

Please note that I am no expert on digestive enzymes. That said, I don't see anything in there that would be likely to be harmful EXCEPT for the betaine hydrochloride. Please read Jini's experience taking a supplement that contained betaine HCL in Chapter Two of LTYG. (Look for it in the index.) Not a good supplement to take for anyone with ulceration or who is prone to intestinal bleeding.

I actually had a discussion recently with someone else about digestive enzymes, so I'm going to post that link here, too.

If you do some experimenting with digestive enzymes, definitely look for one that does not contain Betaine HCL. I haven't done any particular research on this, it's just an instinctive feeling I have, but I would also be cautious about taking enzymes with protease (the enzyme that helps the body to digest protein) if you have active disease. My fear is that the huge influx of protein-digesting enzyme might possibly have some effect on raw tissue on the digestive tract. Again, this isn't something I've done research on, so I have no idea if I'm right, but I'm mentioning it anyway. Please post here to let us know how you make out if you do decide to try digestive enzymes....that way we can all pool our knowledge.

All the best,
Nicole
