Not the usual symptoms--What to do?

Postby lucyb on Sat Apr 07, 2007 4:11 pm

I was diagnosed with crohn's 2 years ago through a colonoscopy. Unfortunately for me I don't exhibit the normal crohns symptoms and I've become hard to treat. I have the Listen to your Gut book but as with most books on this issue, most does not apply to me.
I experience chronic constipation, intense cramping, and my biggest problem---excessive explosive wet gas, that if I don't run to the bathroom in time, I will dirty myself. (It's almost like having diarrhea, but not enough comes out). I've tried several prescription medications that have left me worse or no better. I've tried enzymes and aloe to no avail. Went on special diets with little help. My biggest problem is Probiotics ALWAYS constipate me--I had a horrible time with the Natren Products. I mean, really bad. Couldn't go for a week and had to take a double dose of MOM.
Anyway, I did have some success while on Cipro, but you can't stay on that very long. I want to try either the Oregano or Olive Leaf extract, but I know you must use probiotics. What's the minimum dose I can do on the Probiotics so I can use the natural antibotic?

Hi, Lucy.

I will ask Jini to comment directly. She may have had a consultation client over the years with similar symptoms and could share what worked for them.

Check back in a few days for a post.

Constipation & Probiotics

Postby Jini Admin on Tue Apr 10, 2007 7:23 pm

Hi There,

A good way to get around the probiotic issue may be to only take Megadophilus (L.acidophilus) which does not inhabit the colon. Start at only 1/8 tsp once per day and gradually increase up to 1 tsp, 3x/Day. Then, add the Digesta-Lac - go at the same pace of introduction and gradual increase. Once you are tolerating both of these, then start the Bifido Factor (the main resident of the colon) - but again, go really slow with this one.

Start on the Wild Oregano right away, as continued therapy with this will make your body more likely to accept and utilize the probiotics.

Next, if you are currently on ANY prescription drugs (for whatever reason), you need to do an Internet search of the side effects. If constipation or spastic bowel, or flatulence (gas) is listed as a possibility (no matter how rare they claim it is), then you need to wean off that drug or you will likely not see results from the natural therapies.

Let us know how it goes......
