Time frame for AbsorbPlus and supplements

Postby cjm0318 on Fri Jul 14, 2006 2:16 pm

Hello,
My son has been on the IBD Diet for the past 3 weeks. I am having a
hard time coordinating when to give the Oil of Oregano and /or the
probiotics since they need to be given on an empty stomach. He is taking
6 shakes a day. Any suggestions.....and how long after drinking a shake
is the stomach empty?
Thanks for you assistance

Time frame for Absorb Plus

Postby Nicole on Sun Aug 06, 2006 11:27 am

Hi, Jeannie.

I was taking four shakes a day. Here's roughly how I did it.

6:40 am - Probiotics

7:00 am - Absorb Plus

9:00 am - Absorb Plus

12:30 pm - Probiotics

1:00 pm - Absorb Plus

3:00 pm - Absorb Plus

9:00 pm - Probiotics

For the first three weeks I was on the elemental diet, I followed the Wild Oregano Oil protocol with three doses a day, which I felt was sufficient for me to get results. Wild Oregano Oil should be taken at least two hours befor taking probiotics. So I followed a schedule like this:

6:40 am - Wild Oregano Oil

7:00 am - Absorb Plus

9:00 am - Absorb Plus

12:30 pm - Wild Oregano Oil

1:00 pm - Absorb Plus

3:00 pm - Absorb Plus

5:00 pm - Wild Oregano Oil

9:00 - Probiotics

I found it easier during the day to plan on taking the probiotics or Oregano Oil prior to having a shake. You can take the probiotics or Wild Oregano Oil 20 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after one. The stomach probably empties sooner than that with Absorb Plus, since it is a predigested source of nutrients, but to be on the safe side, I stuck with that guideline of at least two hours after drinking a shake.

If I was having six shakes a day, I probably would have tried to drink three shakes between the hours of 7:00 - 10:30 am and three shakes between 1:00 and 4:30 pm. Then I'd have a dose of Wild Oregano Oil at 6:30 pm and my probiotics at bedtime.

One thing that I think helped me....and this was probably more of a mental thing than anything else....was to take the probiotics or Oregano Oil first thing in the morning...right after I made my morning trip to the bathroom. That way, I could get an early start on drinking my shakes. I definitely felt better getting most of my nutrients as early in the day as possible. I think this also helped me to avoid having to get up during the night to go to the bathroom.

Hope this helps you.

Scheduling supplements

Again, an excellent reply from Nicole!

I also cover this topic in my newsletter, so please sign up for that if you haven't already (you can sign up on the home page of this site).

My brother Millan (who's an MD) reckons it takes about 20 minutes for Absorb Plus to be absorbed into the bloodstream and clear the stomach. So if you leave 45 mins - 1 hour that should be easily sufficient.

take care,
Jini
