Hello Jini,

Thanks so very much for replying personally to my email--after 30 years of searching for THE answer from every type of doc in the world, I have learned allot, but realized on reading Chapter 1 of LTYG, I have never really listened long enough to get better--impatience has reigned.

For fiber, Chris suggested acacia---I have given it pretty long trials and it has been pretty gassy for me--as all the prebiotics have been. None of the soluable gel-forming supplements have not helped--quite the opposite. Just today, I started a hypoallergenic, supposedly non-gassy cellulose powder--we'll see how that does. I was hoping the Life Start alone would solve things--will just have to listen allot to my body.

You don't mention Pau D'arco tea for candida--I am curious about your thoughts? I know the SCD people regard it a laxative, but my doc says 'no...thats just die-off'.

My feeling is that the probiotics, once 'up to speed' should help with fructose intolerance. What is your opinion?

I have always excercised allot--cardio, strength and have really ramped up my yoga practice in the last year, truly a lifeline, a way to go 'within'. Am hopeful you still have plans to put out the yoga program you mentioned in LTYG?

I appreciate your time very much; will stop here, but if you have any further ideas regarding fiber and/or probiotics for my gut that 'overproduces/undermotivates'---not really classic constipation at all; just very spasmy/gassy and slow, I would love to hear them.

Once again, thank you so much and thank you for LTYG; this is a resource--the website and forum, as well as the book/CD!

Your questions

Postby Nicole on Tue Jan 30, 2007 9:06 pm

Hi, Susan.

Nicole here.

As far as the fiber, if you've given that a good trial in the past and it has exacerbated things rather than helping, by all means, don't feel under any pressure to try it again.

If it were me, I'd continue with the probiotics. As was previously suggested, continue gradually building up the LifeStart until you're taking 1 tsp. three times per day, then add in the Megadophilus, then the Digesta-Lac and finally the Bifido Factor in the same gradual manner. Listen to your body's feedback in determining how fast.

It is important to remember that the probiotics usually give gradual improvement. It will likely be some months before you're seeing the peak benefit.

You might try the fiber again later if you feel it may benefit you at that time.

It sounds like you're already exercising pretty regularly, which does help to regulate peristalsis. So in the meantime, while you're waiting for the probiotics to fully colonize....and for you to get the full benefits of that colonization..... you might try EFT directly on the 'undermotivated' gut as well as for any emotional issues you feel may be contributing.

I've included a few links to Gary Craig's website in case that may be of interest to you. I know there is also a case history in his free manual which deals specifically with consitpation. As I recall, the gentleman in that case history applied EFT on a daily basis for about a month before his issue resolved.

Or you could explore some other mind/body healing technique that appeals to you. The mind and emotions have a very powerful influence on the physical body, so it's worth all the time and effort to get all aspects of the self working in the same direction: towards healing.

Jini may not mention pau d'arco either because she hasn't tried it personally or because she tried it without seeing any real difference. She is very conscientious about recommending only products which she has tried herself. You can read about the trial procedure she uses in the following link:

http://www.jinipatelthompson.com/bb2/vi ... .php?t=156

We'll have to ask Jini about yoga program! I'm sure other people are interested, as well.

Most people find that as their guts heal, their intolerances heal or improve....that is, they can eat more foods without symptoms. But as Jini points out, it is a good idea to keep these intolerances in mind as they may rear their heads again if you're under particular stress. Judging from my own experience, it seems like there's a good bit of "back and forth" on the road to healing. By which I mean, two steps forward, one step back; overall, there's forward progress, but it's not steady.

Hope this helps!

Hi Susan,

Nicole gave an excellent reply and I agree that full spectrum, high dose probiotics are your best bet for regulating your bowel function - along with addressing the emotional factors.

Also, read through the list of things that interfere with good bacteria and make sure you're not ingesting any of them (in Ch.2 of LTYG).

I haven't tried Pau d'arco, so don't have much to say about it.

I can't remember if you've tried it yet, but the other thing that may really make a difference is Jini's Wild Oregano Oil Protocol - and probiotic supplementation is a part of the protocol.

But remember to address the emotional component - this is really key!

You're welcome and I'm so glad you're utilising all the resources.

all the best,
Jini

thanks and one more thing

Hi Jini,

Thanks so much for following up on Nicole's excellent answer...!

And, just want to say, to you and everyone really...this forum is great. I have only participated in one other forum, and that is Heather's.

What makes the LTYG forum so different, and I believe, good, is that it is based on principles...it is not just allot of back and forth of unfounded, subjective 'worked for me' ideas. The comments are thoughtful and deliberate, always rooted in the same pattern as your book....'here's the basic principle, but everyone's body is different, so the bottom line is always the same---back to Listen to YOUR Gut'.

Thanks to everyone who makes this such an excellent resource!
