elemental diet

Postby emmaeli on Mon Apr 27, 2009 7:29 am

Hi Jini and Nicole, I hope you are both well.
Could you please give me some guidance?
I was recently on the elemental diet for 7 weeks and I could feel and see major improvements. However, I am having a difficult time with the food re-introduction, it has been quite painful and especially I have noticed my fistulas are playing up again. So I was thinking of going back on the diet again for awhile. It has been almost 4 weeks since coming off the diet. Is it possible to go back on the diet so soon after coming off it? Could this upset my digestion in any way after having food for only 3 weeks? Also, if I can go on it again do you recommend a time period to stay on it after being on it for 7 weeks just recently?
Thanks for your help.
Kind Regards
Emma

Hi, Emma.

I'm sorry that your food introduction is being so rocky! That must be discouraging, especially after you saw so many improvements.

You can go back on the IBD Remission Diet...and if you're really having a lot of pain, perhaps that is what you need to do, until your filtulae are healed.

However, a fistula is a sign of infection. So while you may want to return to the IBD Remission Diet for digestive comfort, to further promote healing and to reduce the stool to a watery minimum (good unless the feces enter the fistula, aggravating it), the other thing you want to think about doing is following Jini's Wild Oregano Protocol. You may even consider just following Phase One of Jini's Wild Oregano Protocol for two to three weeks to see if that improves things sufficiently; then decide whether you want to (or need to) combine that with a temporary return to the elemental diet.

All the best,
Nicole
