Poll: How did the elemental diet work for you?

Postby badlydrawnboy on Thu Jan 18, 2007 2:04 am

Hi folks,

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Chris, the moderator of the IBD Remission Diet forum.

I have seen some reports lately of thrush (thick, white tongue coating) from people on the elemental diet, and I have also experienced this when I was on an elemental diet. As you may know, thrush can be a sign of yeast overgrowth in the digestive tract.

I am curious to know how many people have had this symptom while on the elemental diet, so I would like to use this thread to conduct an informal poll. Could you please answer the following two questions in a reply to this message:

1. Did you notice thrush while you were on the elemental diet?

2. Were you doing the wild oregano oil protocol during the diet?

3. Did the elemental diet significantly reduce your symptoms?

Thanks for your help and cooperation,
Chris

Hi, Chris.

In response to your poll:

1. Yes, I did notice white patches on my tongue before, during, and for awhile after following the IBD Remission Diet.

2. I was taking 10 drops of Oregano Oil three times a day for the first half of the IBD Remission Diet. For the second half, I followed Phase Two of Jini's Wild Oregano Oil Protocol.

3. Yes, my symptoms improved dramatically over the course of the six weeks I followed the IBD Remission Diet. Beyond that, after some trial and error, I settled into a diet loosely based on the Specific Carb Diet, but also incorporating principles from Jini's healing diets and Dr. Mercola's Total Health Program. I do limit honey-sweetened products to one serving once a week. I eat a LOT of vegetables and I eat more meat than I used to (I used to eat very little). The week before my menstrual period, I follow an anti-candida diet quite strictly (limit fruit and eliminate honey, peanut butter and fermented foods, like kefir), as from what I've read, hormonal changes at this time of the month can favor yeast growth. I continue to take the Natren probiotics every day. These steps have allowed me to manage yeast in my system. But I traveled quite a distance on my healing journey in a relatively short time on the IBD Remission Diet; I feel it really laid the foundation for further healing in my body.
