Rectal canal stricture

Postby aholmes on Wed Feb 25, 2009 8:26 pm

My daughter has had Crohn's for 5 years. Her stools over the last year or two have becoming narrower. Recently, after a colonoscopy, we found out she has a stricture in the rectal canal. Her stools were as thin as a flattened pencil. She is presently on a stool softener. In Jini's book, she writes of a similar experience and found positive results with craniosacral therapy. My question is, how did the therapist manipulate the scar tissue in this area? Was the scar tissue softened externally, or internally or a combination of both? We visited a therapist about a year ago and I don't think she knew how to manipulate the rectal canal area. I'd like to know how Jini got results so I can question a few craniosacral therapists in our area where we live.I am hoping we can find a good therapist so my daughter can avoid having surgery.(Sorry, this question was also posted on the main discussion forum).
Thanks, aholmes

Hi Anna,

There are numerous therapies that work by actually softening and changing the characteristics of scar tissue. So that even though the excess scar tissue may still be there, instead of being rigid and obstructive, it is flexible and capable of stretching.

Since your daughter is a child, craniosacral will work even better for her since her body is more responsive to change than an adult.

However, in many countries, bodywork therapists cannot legally work internally - they are only allowed external contact. I saw a physiotherapist who was also trained in craniosacral in the US and a craniosacral therapist in Canada - both were not "legally" allowed to work internally, but bless them, some will for the sake of the client.

I believe osteopathic doctors (many of whom have craniosacral training) are legally allowed to work internally, so maybe start there. Otherwise, go to http://www.upledger.com and search for a craniosacral practitioner with Level II or higher, and then contact them to ask if they will work internally (explain your problem first).

Also, if your daughter is very traumatized about anyone touching her rectal area, you can have the therapist work through the vagina - which is equally effective. You can stay in the room with her at all times.

Now, having said all that, I have also since developed a new protocol that I believe will shrink and soften scar tissue within 2-3 months. It is in Issue #7 of the infoletter - my article on DMSO. So go and read that again.

But since writing that I have continued to experiment with the formula and here's what I've discovered: Syringing the formula into the rectum is messy and fairly time consuming. Therefore, I developed a new delivery method of putting the formula into suppository form and this has been working really well.

The suppository formula works really well for both anal stenosis or strictures AND for internal hemorrhoids (which also require healing and reduction in mass). Often when you have a stricture or a tight internal anal sphincter muscle that won't open wide enough, you develop internal hemorrhoids from all the straining to have a bowel movement. So here it is:

Rectal Suppositories for Anal Stenosis, Strictures or Internal Hemorrhoids

20 drops (1/4 tsp) potassium iodide (also known as SSKI)
1 ounce (2 tbsps) cocoa butter, melted
1/4 tsp. DMSO
1 tbsp. slippery elm bark powder

- Fill a large bowl with about 1-2 inches of boiling hot water.

- Put the cocoa butter in a small bowl and place this small bowl in the center of the hot water in the large bowl. Make sure the water level is low enough that no water comes into the small bowl.

- Stir the cocoa butter around until it melts.

- Remove the small bowl to the counter and add the rest of the ingredients to the melted cocoa butter, stirring continuously.

- As the cocoa butter cools, it will begin to harden. While it is still soft, form the mixture into suppositories of the desired length and width.

- Place these suppositories on a sheet of wax paper and place in the fridge to harden. Once solid, wrap each suppository in tin foil and then place in a container together. Keep in the fridge or a cool place.

Dosage for Rectal Stricture:

- Use two suppositories per day (one just before bed) for as long as it takes to soften scar tissue (1-6 months)
- Simultaneously take 250 mg Magnesium Citrate and 100 mg Postassium Citrate, together after a good breakfast, or good lunch. This acts as a muscle relaxant for the anal sphincter muscle to facilitate easier bowel movements.

Dosage for Internal Hemmorhoids:

- Use one suppository before bed at night every night for 7 nights. Then take a one week break. If still needed, then use 1 every night for 2 weeks. Then take a 2 week bread. If still needed, start the dosage cycle again at the beginning. BUT, internal hemorrhoids will likely heal in that first week.
- Simultaneously take 250 mg Magnesium Citrate and 100 mg Postassium Citrate, together after a good breakfast, or good lunch. This acts as a muscle relaxant for the anal sphincter muscle to facilitate easier bowel movements.

You know about the benefits of all the other ingredients from the DMSO article. However, when forming into suppositories, you also have to add some powdered herb to make the suppositories easier to form.

I chose slippery elm for this because in addition to being anti-inflammatory, slippery elm bark was also traditionally used for treating abscesses, dysentery, urinary conditions and fever. Poultices were traditionally used to support bone and joint health, reduce swollen glands and stop the spread of infections. So I felt this would be a good herb for what we were trying to accomplish here.

I know it's a hassle to make the suppositories yourself - especially getting them thin enough to insert into a narrowed rectum! This has joined my list of products that I will manufacture once the funds are available....

Post here and let us know how it goes and how long it takes to see a reduction in scar tissue.

all the best,
Jini

Thank you so much for your reply. It was much appreciated. I have some questions. Where can I get some of these products to make these suppositories? I see some of them can be purchased from the Tahoma clinic. What about the slippery elm bark powder? (I have some from the emema kit). Is there anything special I should know about the cocoa butter? Would I get the Magnesium Citrate and Potassium Citrate from the Tahoma clinic?
One more thing, I mentioned my daughter was on a stool softener (she has been on it for a couple of months). It is Lansoyl (it is made up of mostly mineral oil). It is starting to bother her. It is causing her to go to the washroom every 5- 10 minutes and is starting to cause cramping. Can you recommend any other stool softener that is more easy on the system. Until we can relax the narrowing in the rectal canal ( hopefully with these suppositories ) she needs to be able to pass stools easily. Hope you can help us. Thanks, Anna.

Hi, Anna.

Not sure whether you're in North America or not, but if you are, an excellent source for any type of herbal product is Mountain Rose Herbs. http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/

You'll be able to get certified organic slippery elm powder and cocoa butter there. I've ordered from them for years and have always been beyond pleased with the quality of the products and service.

The Tahoma Clinic does have both magnesium citrate and potassium citrate. I'll ask Jini to answer your question with a brand recommendation for them, as well as your question regarding a stool softener.

All the best,
Nicole

Hi Anna,

Actually you can get the magnesium and postassium at any health store - just make sure its in a form she can take. If she can't swallow pills, then get capsules (empty the powder and dissolve in small amount of apple juice) or tablets she can just chew - the magnesium has very little taste and the potassium is mildly unpleasant (if chewed).

The magnesium and potassium should be fine without a stool softener. Try it for a few days and see.

If still needed, then raw milk and raw egg yolks in a shake makes a good stool softener. And she can just have this in place of breakfast, if you wish:

2 raw organic egg yolks
1 cup raw milk (pasture-fed only) or yoghurt
1 tsp - 1 tbsp. Udo's oil (adjust according to taste, the more the better)
maple syrup to taste
(can also mix magnesium and potassium powder in here)
Optional: 1 extra ripe (black) banana

- Mix banana and milk/yoghurt together until blended. Add eggs and oil and blend on low for 5-10 seconds.

Daily Udo's and cod liver oil also help to keep stool soft - all my kids just chew the Nordic Naturals cod liver oil and then spit out the gel casing - it tastes nice.

let us know how it goes,
Jini
