Liver Detox & IBD

What is a good way to detox the liver while I am on the IBD diet?
I cannot take saunas, as I do not sweat and become very fatigued - thank you for suggestions

I would also be very interested in liver detox. I am doing milk thistle and dandelion as support herbs for my liver as it is obviously stressed. I decided to drink red clover tea also and am starting that today..... I think it is a key way to speed healing , Love some feed back on experiences with the Liver.

Detoxing

Postby Nicole on Sun Jan 14, 2007 9:02 pm

I am not a doctor; these are just some things I've picked up along the way.

First of all, if your health is already in a "delicate" state, I think it would be well worth it to seek out a relationship with a naturopathic physician, particularly one who specializes in detoxification. Some doctors will spend the first few weeks or even months preparing the body for detox. This is because one of the reasons people can experience a lot of symptoms during detox is that the body's detoxification pathways aren't capable of processing released toxins fast enough. So, from a layperson's standpoint, and this is just my own opinion, it is probably best to lay the foundation for detox before getting started with a protocol.

Jini's opinion is that it's best to wait until you're fairly healed and at a normal weight (or even overweight) before beginning a detoxification program and to choose treatments that are gentle. She also advises following any detoxification program more slowly than the average person would to avoid triggering advsere reactions.

One great way to both lay that foundation and begin detoxification in a very gentle way is with the IBD Remission Diet.

And of course, at any time, regardless of one's state of health, it is always helpful to minimize the toxins going into the body. Eating certified organic food, getting fresh air, and minimizing or eliminating household chemicals are some of the ways we can reduce the toxic load on our bodies.

I hope these thoughts are helpful.

Well said Nicole.

Detox is hard on even a healthy body and usually causes weight loss, so whilst a necessary component, always err on the side of caution.
