NAG and Food

Postby ndenovan on Fri Jan 05, 2007 3:00 pm

I have been taking NAG (1 cap at a time) on an empty stomach, as you directed in "Listen." However, I do not tolerate it taken that way. Can I take it with a little food, or DGL, as otherwise NAG bothers my stomach?

If I cannot add food, is it necessary to take NAG to heal the gut, or can I use l'glutatheine and other Mucosa Heal produts to accomplish this?

NAG

Hi, Nancy.

For the NAG to go directly to the intestinal lining, it needs to be taken on an empty stomach. However, you can certainly take it with DGL, if that helps you to tolerate it. In fact, the two together are ingredients in MucosaHeal.

L Glutamine can be taken with food and will still nourish the lining of the gut. However, it will not have an anti-diarrheal effect unless it is taken on an empty stomach, if this is a concern for you.

It is not necessary to take NAG in order for your gut to heal. It's a supplement that's proven to be helpful to many people, but if you don't tolerate it well, you're better off trying some of the other recommended supplements, instead. You may find that you can tolerate it later, once some healing has already taken place. We all go through some experimenting and some ups and downs on our healing journeys.

Supplements are absolutely helpful, but it's equally important to figure out what diet is helpful and nurturing to your gut....Jini gives guidelines in Chapter Three, but again, there's still a bit of experimenting and testing we all have to do....and to address any emotional/lifestyle factors that may be draining the energy our bodies need to heal.
