Oregano oil and prescriptions

Postby ndenovan on Thu Jan 04, 2007 3:46 am

you say on page 151 of "Listen" not to follow the protocol using Wild Oregano Oil to kill off fungal infections if you're using 3 or more prescriptions. I am currently on thyroid hormone, cortisol, estrogne, progesterone and DHEA. Would it be OK for my liver to go on olive leaf extract instead?

Since I already have to do IVs of glutathione every week, would it be best for me to take only garlic (Kayloic) and Natren Healthy Trinity for my yeast infection? (I can't take Healthy Start as it is grown in potatoe and garbanzo, both of which I am allergic to).

Thank you so much for yor grat books. Nancy

Oregano Oil and prescriptions

Postby Nicole on Sat Jan 06, 2007 1:50 am

Hi, Nancy.

From the reading I've done on the subject, any strong anti-fungal substance, herbal or pharmaceutical, makes extra work for the liver. So for a person who's already taking other pharmaceuticals, which also put an extra detox load on the liver, it makes sense to proceed with caution, if at all.

However, all of the prescriptions you mentioned are hormones. Are these natural or synthetic? I think the answer to that has some bearing on whether or not you might safely pursue using the Wild Oregano Oil or the Olive Leaf Extract simultaneously. The therapies you're using make me think that you're probably seeing a naturopath. He or she is probably your best source of information as to whether or not it's a good idea to pursue the Wild Oregano Oil protocol at this time.

On the other hand, garlic is a food. As long as you tolerate it well (some people get gas, bloating or diarrhea, depending on where they are in their healing), you can certainly consume garlic regularly without worry. Following an anti-candida diet (The Yeast Connection is a good source of information) and taking probiotics should certainly be something you can safely pursue, regardless of the prescriptions you're taking.

Just as a general note, in my opinion, following an anti-candida diet along with probiotics is the first line of both offense and defense in any case, although a severe infection probably calls for stronger efforts. Still, we work against what we're trying to do if we take an anti-fungal on the one hand and regularly consume foods that feed yeast on the other. Following an anti-candida diet provides a complement to taking anti-fungals and vice versa.

I hope this helps you.

Olive leaf extract

Postby Nicole on Sat Jan 06, 2007 3:15 am

Hi, Nancy.

If you do try the olive leaf extract, you might ask Chris, who is the moderator of the IBD Remission Diet forum, about it. He's mentioned that he finds it easier to tolerate than the Wild Oregano Oil, so he can share his experience using it with you. I've always used the Oregano Oil, myself.
