Herxheimer Reaction & Probiotics

Postby Anncleary@msfinancial.net on Wed Feb 06, 2008 3:59 pm

Hi Nicole,
It has been nearly two weeks of non-stop migranes, indigestion, muscle aches, joint pain & painful urination. I've reduced my intake of Digesta-Lac to 1/2 capsule per day (as of last Friday.) I reduced the dose, after having to go to urgent care to get a shot of Demerol for the excrutiating migrane. Is it possible that such a low dose (along with 2 t. of Bifido & 2-3 t. Megadophilus) could still be causing such a strong Herxheimer reaction? Up until two weeks ago, I had very little indigestion (which I had been experiencing for over 5 years.) I'm assuming I shouldn't even consider W.O.O. until I'm feeling much better. I just need your reassurance that this is still "normal." I've tried everything (DGL, more Megadophilus, peppermint oil for my headaches) & I can't get much relief. I was making such terrific gains, so I'm terrified I've done something wrong. I am doing E.F.T. regularly & do feel it helps so much with the angst I'm feeling right now. Any other ideas & suggestions would be much appreciated! Ann

Hi, Ann.

Well, what I can say is that a lot of ups and downs are normal along the way - as much as we hate the "downs," they're just par for the course. It's very typical to make progress, fall backwards to some degree, and then make progress again to a further point than before and so on.

And of course, lots of other things can contribute to this, as well.

Yes, it can be difficult when you're ramping up your probiotics. Think back to the teleseminar with Natasha Trenev. She mentioned how people get gas, increased diarrhea or constipation, etc. when they begin but that it's not the probiotics "causing" these symptoms - it's actually a positive sign (even though it doesn't feel like it!) of the bacterial flora being rebalanced.

So, similar to someone coming off medications, (that was a really great discussion thread recently; I'll post the thread below), if you want to pursue holistic healing, you have to be "okay" with the fact that there are going to be some unpleasant times along the way. You can ramp up probiotics or W.O.O. very slowly or if it feels right to you, you can just plow through the Herxheimer reaction, giving it up to two weeks to start to feel improvements.

The other thing is to check out the link with the EFT session - very interesting and there are definite possibilities for customizing the general concept to your situation. For instance, instead of talking about the side effects of a chemotherapy drug, you can use similar wording for the temporary "side effects" of the increased probiotics, choosing how to view them and tapping in those choices.

So follow this link; I think you'll find a lot of encouragement in it:

All the best,
Nicole
