Oil of oregano question. Is this called Healing?

Postby knowlesv on Thu Dec 28, 2006 3:23 pm

I have a question about the oil of oregano treatment plan. I have had UC for over 10 years. I was doing pretty good, only occasional bleeding, no mucus production no more than 3 stools per day. I had been already taking high does of probiotics for the past 3 months. I started the oil of oregano protocal. In my area I am only able to get the oregano in soft gels. I have been taking 2 tabs 3 times a day. By day 5 I started with increase mucus, increase stools which most of the time is just mucus painful gas and bloating, which I didn't have before I started the oregano and diarrhea. Is this considered die off? If so how long will I need to deal with this. I did also have bleeding around day 7 which did settle down around day 10. I am currently on day 15 and still have increase stools with mucus, diarrhea, gas and bloating. How long do I continue the oregano treatment. I am also following a very low grain and low to no surgar diet which I have followed for the past 18 months and I still take the probiotics, 2 hours after the oregano. I guess I am confused, because if this was a medication the physician had give to me I would consider myself intolerant of the medication and stopped the med. But if it is die off I will continue.

Thanks Vickie

Die off or intolerance?

Hi, Vickie.

I really wouldn't be honest if I said I could give you a hard and fast answer to your question. This is one of those times when you really have to make a quiet time to really connect with yourself and then go with what you think and feel is right.

Not all things are good for all people. So it is possible that the Oil of Oregano does not agree with your system.

On the other hand, gas and more frequent or loose stools are very common die off symptoms. So it is also entirely possible that your symptoms are actually a sign of something beneficial going on behind the scenes.

Have there been any other changes in your life and/or diet recently? Any unusual stress? Any foods eaten that are so-so....okay sometimes and not okay at others? In my own experience, quite often when I have a downturn, it's a combination of stressors that leads up to it, not just one...so I find a few things that I need to address.

You might try cutting your dose of Oil of Oregano back and building it up again gradually as it seems right to you. In other words, start with Phase Two of Jini's protocol and build up to Phase One. It will take longer to deal with any infectious organisms that way, but it should also make any die-off reactions much more manageable. If you continue having symptoms to the same degree even with a much smaller dose, I would question whether you may just be intolerant to the Oil of Oregano.

This is just a suggestion. If your intuition leads you in a different direction, by all means, listen to yourself and not to me. We all know ourselves and our own bodies much better than anyone else can ever do.

I hope this will be helpful for you and please let us know how you make out.

Now that I think about it I did add an aloe mucilaginous polysaccharids product that I had on hand. I had stopped that product when I started that SCD diet because it was illegal. I read in the book that it could be ok so I thought I would just use it up. I will stop the aloe and slow down the oil of oregano to see what will happen.

Thanks

You might also try Olive Leaf Extract (OLE) instead of Oregano Oil. Some people (myself included) seem to tolerate it better, and it has powerful antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects.

It's very important to get OLE from a manufacturer that harvests and processes it to retain the maximum phytochemical and antioxidant activity. I recommend Seagate Products. http://www.seagateproducts.com/olive-leaf-extract.html
