COLITIS / NEW JOB OFFER

Postby starfire on Mon Nov 26, 2007 5:38 pm

Good day Jini/Nicole,
As per my previous entries, I have recently recovered from having ulcerative colitis and at this time do not have any symptoms. I have tested different foods that would pose problems and do not have any negative effect from anything.
I have the possibility of going to work in Northen Alberta (fort Mcmurray)
to work in the oil industry as a truck driver. I would be living in a base camp. I would hope to be able to take all my supplements with me.
Do you think it's too early in my healing to take on this type of work right now? Any views/suggestions/ideas are most appreciated.
Thank you,
Bill 8)

some thoughts....

You say you tested some foods, I would be cautious about that. Recently I just got real sick and tired of eating steamed veggies and rice and said to hell with it I'm going to eat any damn thing I want to. So I started buying microwave veggie dinners that I used to live on alot, and eating some salads more often etc . Well it went fine for a couple of weeks but the fiber was just too much and pretty much put me back in bed for almost a week. Now I'm back to steaming veggies and rice again. Are you going to have any control over the foods you eat in an isolated environment, it sounds like? If you have control or can cook your own type of safer foods I'd say go for it, you can get your supplements over the internet by mail etc.

Hi, Bill.

Well, you got a couple of great replies there.

Ultimately, this is one of those things you really have to connect with yourself about. We all have to work in one way or another, so I know economic necessity is sometimes a driving force. If that's the only reason you're thinking about taking the job and you have reservations inside yourself, I'd be very hesitant.

But if you definitely feel that it's something you'd find interesting and rewarding (I have an uncle who was a truck driver for years and there was nothing he liked better than being out on the open road), that's a huge plus.

Everything's a delicate balance. But one of the heavyweights on the scale (in my opinion) is whether you enjoy what you do. If you feel trapped in a situation that you don't like, all the supplements, good diet, exercise and rest in the world might not be enough to completely counteract it.

Just my two cents....

Always nice to hear from you!
