Anti-fungal & IBD Diet

Postby ndenovan on Mon Dec 18, 2006 11:21 pm

I have high intestinal yeast. Can start anti-fungal medication (colloidal silver) and probiotics (Natren's "Healthy Start") before starting the IBD diet? Or should I wait until I am on the diet to begin an anti-yeast treatment?

You can do either. I would investigate wild oregano oil as an anti-yeast treatment. Clinical studies show that it is as effective or more effective than Nyastatin (a powerful anti-fungal drug) in killing candida albicans. Olive leaf extract also exhibits anti-fungal properties (as well as antibacterial and antiviral properties), and although there is less clinical research supporting its use many physicians and healthcare professionals are having good anecdotal results.

Pau d'arco tea

Postby Pauline on Tue Dec 19, 2006 11:05 am

I have been recommended to use a tea called pau d'arco which is made from the bark of a Brazilian tree. It tastes ok and, while it is not as powerful as some other methods, it is an easy way to fight the yeast.

Cat's Claw (tea or tincture) has also been clinically shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and is commonly used as an IBD treatment in South America. I've actually had some success with it.
