Dosage of Ferrasorb

Postby cjm0318 on Sun Jun 24, 2007 10:48 pm

Hello Jini,
I need your expertise regarding the Ferrasorb. This is Kyle's second round on the elemental diet. His iron was down to 24 back in March 2007, and since starting the IBD Remission diet with 1 capsule Ferrasorb 2 x daily, his iron is now 37. Now the problem is his iron saturation is very low. Would it be beneficial to give Kyle 1 capsule Ferrasorb 3 x daily? Can the body handle this amount of iron?
Thanks( our gi doc suggested this but I am not sure he as knowledgeable about this as you would be).

Hi Jeannie,

The maximum dosage for Ferrasorb is 3-4 per day.

I found whilst pregnant, I could handle 4 per day, but otherwise 3 per day was my maximum.

I would gradually build Kyle up to 3 per day. And you could even alternate days - e.g. 2 pills on Monday, 3 pills on Tuesday, etc.

And of course, divided doses are always easier on the gut - e.g. 1 pill, 3/day rather than 3 pills all at once.

take care and glad he's doing so well!

Jini
