NEED 'NEWBIE' INFORMATION RE. LTYG, PLEASE!

Postby ssr on Thu Jan 11, 2007 7:12 pm

to Jini and everyone,

Hello, I am new and contemplating getting LTYG, but have a question. Based on my history, I wonder if this resource will really help me. Please let me know your thoughts:

I was diagnosed with IBS 30 years ago, at age 20 and have been actively seeking answers ever since. Also...diagnosed with fructose intolerance 5 years ago, do not seem to do well with sugars, milk, etc. My main problems are tremendous gas in the colon (lower left quadrant) that 'seizes' up in spasm and will not 'let go'...I am not exactly constipated, but my system is very slow, often a BM feels 'incomplete' and when I have this gas/spasm in the colon, I know it will only be relieved with a BM...and that just never happens. I never have diarrhea.

I have been to traditional gastros, of course, all sorts of alternative folks, tried Heather Van Vourous' acacia fiber and many other fibers, done two large food sensitivity tests, different probiotics, been through the Rifaximin/Bifido/Zelnorm protocol, tried Miralax, have the Hypnotherapy CD's from Heather's site, tried SCDiet and others...none of these things have really offered much consistent relief. Currently I am trying Align, the new probiotic with B. Infantis....it MAY be helping, hard to tell yet.

Given all that, I realize I cannot keep chasing AN answer with various docs, and am intrigued with LTYG, with its mind/body and very intution-based emphasis (childhood fear issues I know play a big part here)...BUT is this a rehash of places I've already been, AND is it more for folks whose problems result in diarrhea, not the other way around?

Please let me know your thoughts on if this may be helpful to me...$$$ are tight right now, but I am desperate to come to more peace with this. I am more than happy to get it if it will offer some new ideas, ways to view things that I can taper to my particular problem.

THANKS IMMEASURABLEY for your help![/u]

Hi, Susan.

I'm Nicole, the moderator of the Main Discussion Forum.

I can tell you that Jini's program has helped me and many other people immensely. I am diagnosed with Crohn's Disease.

I've taken bits and pieces of information from multiple sources to create a program tailored to myself, but what initially impressed me about Jini's program is how many facets it addresses. That's why I've continued to refer to her book, which is truly encyclopedic in nature.

Jini does talk about gas and constipation in Listen to Your Gut, not just diarrhea.

One of the best aspects of Jini's program, in my opinion, is its empasis on healing all aspects of the self, not just the physical self. I think it's safe to say that we all have some beliefs, emotions, etc. that encourage behaviors that will tend to cause or perpetuate illness. For instance, I have a definite tendency to "put off" (indefinitely) taking care of myself in favor of taking care of everyone and everything else around me.....the kids, the cleaning, the laundry, the cats, etc...unless I'm really sick. I might have logically realized that this imbalance would result in trouble someday, but it was Jini's book that gave me the springboard of new perspectives and new tools to actually address the imbalance at its roots.

Finally, I appreciate Jini's honesty. In her own words:

Just remember though, anyone who claims a 100% success rate with any healing tool - is lying. Because people are so different, and you can never know what emotional blocks people hold to prevent good health, it's virtually impossible to hit 100% with any one method, diet, drug, herb, etc.

I think it's likely you will find something new in Jini's book. I hesitated over the price, myself, to begin with, but in my case, it's paid for itself many times over.

It sounds like you may have already done so, but if not, Chapter One is available to read on line. Let me know if you'd like it and I'll post the link.

All the best,
Nicole

This may be a minor thing, but I would replace "Align" with Natren's LifeStart2. Align has both sugar and soy in the capsules (why, I have no idea) which could both cause problems for someone as sensitive as you. LifeStart2 contains the same probiotic (B. Infantis), but it is cultured in goat's milk which is much easier to digest for most people. It may be more expensive, but in this case it seems like it would be worthwhile.

LifeStart2 is not available on their website (don't confuse it with LifeStart, which is cultured in cow's milk). You have to call them to order it. Get the number at www.natren.com.

Best,
Chris

ALIGN vs. Life Start

Postby ssr on Fri Jan 12, 2007 12:22 am

Thanks so much, Chris...I know that about Align and realize it could be a hitch...I did NOT know that there were 2 versions of Life Start and I really appreciate your input.

Thanks again!!! My best back to you!

In the last month my IBS, due to stress and not treating my body right, flattened me, put me in bed with no appetite, anything I ate caused me horrible misery enough to get me to go to a doctor, and I hate doctors. I could barely walk, spending every day dizzy and nauseous, I thought my life was over. I've had IBS a long time in varying intensities, anyway, the doctor was of little or no use, prescribed anti-depressants that made me want to kill myself, and some other nasty drugs that put me to sleep, sleep is a good thing though.

This sent me on a QUEST for knowledge, a burning quest to save my life. I found Heather's site and blew over $100 on her books and products in desperation. There is some good knowledge in her books, but honestly her methodology didn't work at all for me, no relief, her methods are based only on her personal experience, it works for some but for many it doesn't.

Next I got the Klein book on Self Healing Colitis etc. etc. which is a purely vegan, fruitarian type program. I have no problem with veganism, being a vegetarian so studied that book like mad. I did get more useful useable information out of it, but was turned off by his anti-supplements ideas, no herbs, no oils, very strict idea on how to live and eat. But God bless the man, this stuff does work for probably more people than the Heather approach. But I was still in misery, but at least I was up and out of bed, and eating clean good organic fruits and steamed veggies.

I got a little turned off by the strict approach and it wasn't heal enough, so it wasn't working as well as I had hoped. So did some more internet searching and found Jini's information. $150 almost for the material, holy moley, that turned me off right away. But they were having a "sale" then I noticed they had the E-book in pdf form for $69. Some of her excerpts sounded more sane to me, though I didn't see anything that related to vegetarians, so anyway I took the risk, when your body is a mess money is no object even when you're so sick you can't make a living.

the LIsten to your Gut is the best researched, best material I have found anywhere. Her background comes from a medical family yet she healed from alternative health methods and her family had the bucks to fund her inexhaustible search trying every healing mode out there. These other writers didn't do this, their knowledge is very narrow and won't work for everyone. The Jini book is well grounded and real, and I found information immediately that has been of immense help for me, the work is really an encyclopedia as mentioned before, of things to try. Its not really a program its a menu of things to try and conidtions and their solutions. Its really an impressive body of work. I would recommend getting the E-book because you can search it using the acrobat search function which you can't do in a printed book, print the stuff out that you need, it also comes with a bunch of other booklets that are quite valuable resources as well.

This information has been really helpful to me, for instance flax oil. I have used this off and on to get the essential oils in my system but never knew much about the oil itself. Its my miracle oil, it has calmed my colon down incredibly, along with fish oils. I'm going to try the Natren probiotics and the aloe stuff this week. I have tried regular aloe but it gives me diarrhea, I tend to constipation so not a problem but the stuff is harsh on my system, and never knew about the kind that has that irritating component removed, plus its cheap by the gallon too. so YEAH buy the dang book, get the E-book save alot of money. Save your life.

If money is a real problem sign up for her free mini-course, its full of very valuable information and doesn't cost a cent.

I would also recommend looking into your emotions, I have major anxiety problems, and all this stuff coming out now (I am trying very hard not to use cuss words here damnit), has made me realize I need to look inside for all the turmoil thats helped pushed me into this healing crisis. The EFT course manual is free, I don't know much about that yet, I am using the Emotional Genius CD course which isn't too expensive and is a real mind opener with easy emotional tools to use, I'm not done with it yet but its helping already. People with gut problems that aren't medical industry induced or from food poisoning, in my opinion have emotional issues that need work. Tough to face that one, eh? OK, end of rant....
