Water and constipation

Postby Napoleon on Tue Jul 28, 2009 7:48 pm

What is an good amount of water for a day? Is it 64 ounces?

I am wondering if too much water intake can throw off your electrolytes/minerals/etc needed for general body function enough to cause constipation.

I know everyone says to make sure to drink enough, but I drink A LOT of water, sometimes close to a gallon a day and I am wondering if that could in fact be contributing to constipation.

Could drinking too much water cause constipation?

Thanks,
Napoleon

i guess it kind of could. you should not drink that much water, those standards are not right. humans recycle water in their bodies and get a ton of water from their food they eat. People should actually only drink about 3 glasses of water a day, unless you do a lot of phisical activity. if you are thirsty, drink more water, but don't force yourself to drink it if you don't want it. i tried drinking that much, and all that happened was my stomach hurt really bad and my symptoms were worse. i really reccomend a book called the fiber menace, it cured me. it's completely about fiber, water, and carbs, etc. i hope this helped.

There really isn't a hard and fast rule. It depends on your weight, activity level, how much you lose through sweat, etc.

I don't believe too much water would cause constipation.
