X-Factor High Vitamin Butter Oil

Postby echernosky on Tue Apr 21, 2009 4:35 pm

I have been on Cod Liver on and off for the past year or so. I am not presently taking CLO.

After reading all the wonderful things from WestonAPrice.org about the synergy between CLO and BO, I thought I would give High Vitamin Butter Oil a try. My bottle arrived yesterday.

Trying to go slow (which is very hard for me), I took 1/4 tsp last night with dinner. The label suggests 1/2 tsp daily. I was really surprised by the powerful toxification feeling I had after that. Headache/flu like symptoms. I am hoping, hoping this is a Herx reaction.

This morning I took 1/8 tsp and still experienced the same symptoms. I probably will just stay at 1/8tsp per day until I feel better.

This is really amazing to me. This stuff is just concenrated butter right? Wow.

Questions:
1. Is it uncommon for people to have to start as such a low dose?

2. Today I have seen my stools loosen a little. Could this be an indication that toxins are being released from my colon?

3. I know this is an almost impossible question to answer. What would be a reasonable amount of time to expect to be able to tolerate 1/8tsp a day? A week? A month? A year?

4. I am trying to not start the CLO again until I can tolerate the BO. Is this the right approach? Would I tolerate the BO better if I start the CLO right away?

Thanks,
Ed

I guess I should mention that the only prescription medication I am on is 7.5mg of Prednisone. Working hard to get off of it.

Also taking a bunch of supplements, the only one that is probably relevant is 4.8g of EPA/DHA of Nordic Naturals fish oil in capsule form.

Hi, Ed.

Sorry for making you wait for any kind of response. I've had the entire family (including me) sick with the 'flu and have spent the past couple of days just playing catch-up. I do try not to make people wait more than two days for a reply.

In all honesty, I'm not sure how much/if any antimicrobial activity the butter oil would have. Raw milk certainly contains probiotics, but I'm not sure that there'd be any in the butter oil by the time it is processed.

It could be that your body is just adjusting/getting used to this new food source. Do you have any intolerance at all to regular butter?

This is definitely a healthful fat source, so I'd keep at it. Also, as I'm a big fan of EFT(www.emofree.com), if it were me, I'd also be tapping on the headache, my uncertainty as to a possible connection between headache and the butter oil, any frustration you may feel around the issue, etc.

Also, a thought just came to mind, as I just got over the 'flu myself and there definitely seems to be something going around. Could you "just" have the 'flu (my first symptom was a bad headache, which progressed to fever, chills, body aches, gassiness, coughing and lung congestion, etc.) and the timing just happened to coincide with your starting the butter oil?

I'll watch for your answers and any other issues you may want to report regarding the butter oil or questions that may come up.

All the best,
Nicole

Nicole,

As always, thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your battle with the flu. I hope it goes well with you.

The next day I tried taking the BO with CLO. I felt fine... I didn't have the same problems that I did with just the BO. Coincidence? Maybe. The magic synergy that Dr. Price found between the CLO and BO? Maybe. I don't know.

Jini writes that adding real butter to one's diet is preferred over taking HVBO.

Why is is real butter preferred over HVBO?
What do I look for in real butter?
Can I get it at Whole Foods?

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed,

I don't feel that real butter is preferable to High Vitamin Butter Oil - one is a food source and the other more of a supplement (although food-based). I think they're BOTH good.

You won't get the same level of X-factor (now thought to be Vit.K2) from regular butter unless you are eating raw butter from pasture-fed cows in the spring/early summer only.

If you can't get raw butter locally, you can order it from:
www.organicpastures.com

And yes, Dr. Price always recommended to take the cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil together.

take care,
Jini
