Heartburn and probiotics

Postby junebloom on Tue Mar 31, 2009 1:46 am

I read an article where JIni mentioned taking Natren's Megadophilus, for heartburn, before going to bed and sleeping on the left side. I tried doing this and it made the acid reflux worse. Can you please help me understand why this would occur? I stopped taking this and started Healthy Trinity about a week ago. I have also been taking, and continuing to take, Dr. Ohhira's probiotics for over a year.

I have been having acid reflux for over a decade and have tried so many things. THings like Betain, DGL, etc makes it worse. It started impacting ear, nose, throat and teeth about couple of years ago.

Thanks for your help...Manisha

Can Jini or someone respond to this please...I had to stop Healthy Trinity also since it started causing heartburn as well. When I stopped, it went back to the normal heartburn level.

Hi, Manisha.

I will ask Jini to check your question, as well, in case she has additional thoughts, but here are a few questions for you to get started.

What is your diet like? Do you know what your trigger foods are? Do you notice that your heartburn becomes worse if you're stressed? Those are all issues to look at and ferret out, as well.

My father, for instance, has discovered that he can completely control his GERD by strictly limiting his amount of carbohydrates, especially refined carbs. He knows his particular threshold: below that, he's fine; above that, he suffers.

I really don't have an explanation for why your heartburn became aggravated when you added in the Natren probiotics.

All the best,
Nicole

Hi,

One possible solution is to raise the bed about 25 cm from the head end, that sometimes improves the reflux,
Tell us more about your history, how long do you take from your last ingestion till you get in bed, are the symptoms ALWAYS the same?

Let us know more

Best regards
