Mucosa Heal product question

Postby Napoleon on Mon Apr 13, 2009 7:33 pm

I am still trying to find the source of current constipation since I have stopped eating the starchy vegetables.

Can Mucosa Heal be constipating or does it in any way work to stop diarrhea?
Thanks-
Leon

Hi, Leon.

The NAG in MucosaHeal, if taken on an empty stomach, can have a slight anti-diarrheal effect. Nowhere near as much as L-glutamine, but if you're very prone to constipation then yes, I wonder if that could be worsening it. You might try George's aloe vera juice, instead.

Or, as the herbs in MucosaHeal are indeed very healing/soothing, you might make your own minus the NAG. (None of the herbs have a firming action on the stool, although slippery elm and marshmallow root are sometimes used to treat acute diarrhea, just because they're soothing to the inflamed tissues and help to alleviate the problem that way.) You can find all of these herbs, and probably capsules as well, at www.mountainroseherbs.com. One caution: they may only have regular licorice, not DGL. If you're at all prone to high blood pressure, just leave the licorice out.

Hope that helps!
