I came across this study on the ineffectiveness of L-Glutamine in reducing mucosal permeability in Crohn's patients. It also indicates that glutamine may actually increase inflammation in those with active Crohn's Disease. Glutamine increases t-cell activity, and t-cell activation leads to the release of cytokines that may participate in the inflammatory process. Translation: glutamine might be not only ineffective for Crohn's Disease, but actually harmful.
Here's the study I'm referring to, along with another which corroborates its findings. Sheesh, it's really hard to stay current with all this stuff! First glutamine is good, then maybe it's bad. Guess we have to listen to our guts to find out.
