I received this newsletter from Natren last month. They have formulated a new probiotic using B. infantis, which Jini talks about in LTYG on page 170. It is formulated in goat's milk which makes it tolerable from those who are lactose intolerant. At least one study shows it is as effective as Zelnorm for treating IBS. I haven't had much success with other Natren probiotics, so I've ordered a bottle of this and intend to try it. I'll let you know how it goes.
Here's the text of the newsletter, and here's a link to an abstract of the study (http://www.pghsi.com/gastrointestinal/p ... eviews.pdf):
Natren has researched, formulated and manufactured a unique and revolutionary product, Life Start® 2 especially for individuals suffering from IBS. Life Start 2 contains the powerful Bifidobacterium infantis that was proven effective against this inconvenient and often debilitating condition. Life Start 2 is formulated on goat’s milk, which is easier to digest for overly sensitive GI tracts.
Recent research has shown that there is hope for IBS sufferers. A clinical trial printed in Gastroenterology found that Bifidobacterium infantis is an effective treatment for IBS. The researchers found those taking the Bifidobacterium infantis experienced a greater reduction in symptoms and severity. They also found that the people taking the Bifidobacterium infantis had less inflammation in their large intestine. Other research published in numerous medical journals has found that probiotic bacteria enhance digestion and lessen diarrhea and constipation, which are the most problematic symptoms of IBS.
Relief using Life Start 2 is comparable to the relief found using two well-known IBS prescription drugs. However, there is a big difference between the two. Natren provides relief from IBS while modern medicine only provides relief from the symptoms. The extraordinary benefits of Life Start 2 will be available soon in powder or capsule form.
