help! having a flare after I started food reintroduction

Postby getinthere on Fri Nov 30, 2007 6:09 am

I was on the elemental diet completely for 7 weeks. Was very healed up, no blood for several weeks, felt pretty good. It is a week now since I started introducing food. I did the probiotice retention enema and since I got totally cleaned out it I started having very watery poop..before that I was actually having constipation problems...despite taking oral probiotics. the watery poop turned to diarrhea where I felt ill for several days. the ill feeling went away, but the diarrhea remains..and now I am bleeding with some clots. I have started doing the healing enemas and am still drinking shakes (I have been eating turkey/chicken with squash 1X a day). I am also having night sweats. just started taking the oil of oregano at the dosage for nursing moms. 5 - 10 drops/day. I'm just frustrated and venting I guess. I also just started doing the EFT.

should I take the L-glutamine on an empty stomach to try and stop the diarrhea?

I feel like I'm being impatient, because my body was doing pretty good...now I feel like I'm going backwards with my healing and honestly I am worried I will go back to where I was.

Hi, Christy.

You go ahead and vent all that you need to!! You're going through a lot and that's part of what we're here for.

I read your other post about food reintro and Jini's response about Herxheimer reaction, so I know you're already familiar with that.

As I was reading your post, the following discussion thread from Jini's members-only forum came to mind:

You may just have to go slower.

Here's the good news, at least based on my experience. You've had a setback. But even though you've had a setback, my guess is you're still further ahead than before you went on the IBD Remission Diet. If you go back on it, I truly think you'll get back to where you were when you finished it the first time only much, much faster this go-round. And then you can start over with the food reintro a bit slower.

There's a bit of a delicate balance when it comes to dealing with pathogens and toxins. Release too much too fast and you feel really horrible - but you still have to get the stuff out. As Jini mentions in the section on probiotics in Listen to Your Gut, some people's guts are so toxic that to start out they can only take a tiny dose of probiotics every third or fourth day. And I know Jini recently recommended to someone else who had a Herxheimer reaction from a probiotic retention enema to build up the probiotics they were taking to the full recommended (in LTYG) level, stay on that for a period of time and then try again with the probiotic retention enema. So that might also be an option for you.

Night sweats are the pits! How old is your little one? They can be hormonally-related.

You will have ups and downs in healing - I've never met anyone who didn't. And the downs are definitely scary and frustrating. But it is so, so worth it in the end.

What you can do as a nursing mom is limited but you won't be nursing forever and then you'll have more options open to you. It's just pampering yourself through till then....

Yes, you can take the L-glutamine - I know Jini used it while pregnant and breastfeeding. You can also try psyllium seed - although not if you do go back on the IBD Remission Diet briefly, as it is not elemental.

Hang in there - it does get better.

All the best,
Nicole
