Last question I promise!! Probiotics...

This forum was for people who undertook the IBD Remission Diet. It was active for 4 years, so there is a huge body of support and advice here that you can search and find the answers to your questions. Remember, whatever you're going through, someone has likely already posted a question about it and the answer is here - just use the SEARCH function.

Last question I promise!! Probiotics...

Postby the kellys on Wed Nov 22, 2006 2:35 pm

Hi, again, Jini,

My husband and I received our shakes & the IBD Remission Diet Book and read the entire book last night--the IBD diet is so much more than even we thought--we are thrilled! And the shakes are, oh my gosh, wonderful.

We are, however, left with one question. In your book, you say (and I paraphrase) that there is no real point to taking probiotics (as used herein, "probos") while on the Absorb Plus shakes exclusively because it starves off all--good and bad--bacteria. Once any solid food is introduced, however, probos must begin immediately. Just want to confirm that is still your current thought (I know new info can sometimes make things change).

In addition, we'll be doing Wild Oregano Oil through the process, and I know that probos at night are part of the protocol. Am I correct in assuming that if one is doing wild oregano oil and absorb plus exclusively, the probos are redundant, but, once again, when solid food is introduced, probos are a must.

We normally take the fabulous Natren's every day, so I wanted to verify this info with you before we discontinued them while we are exclusively on absorb plus and wild oregano oil.

Many thanks again!

Probiotics on IBD Remission Diet

Postby Jini Admin on Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:38 pm

You're right, as new research emerges, health information can change pretty rapidly. Thus if you check the Book Updates page on this site (and you should also have automatically received these updates via email since you purchased the book), you'll see that I now recommend people ingest probiotics throughout the Diet.

This is because feedback from readers confirmed much better results from probiotic supplementation during the Diet (rather than waiting till the end). And there is now some research that suggests (not confirmed) that some components of maltodextrin pass into the colon, thereby feeding bacteria in the colon.

If you are on the Wild Oregano Oil Protocol, then just follow the instructions for probiotic dosage in the Protocol.

all the best,
Jini
