..and still hemorrhaging with almost every bm..

This forum was for people who undertook the IBD Remission Diet. It was active for 4 years, so there is a huge body of support and advice here that you can search and find the answers to your questions. Remember, whatever you're going through, someone has likely already posted a question about it and the answer is here - just use the SEARCH function.

..and still hemorrhaging with almost every bm..

Postby Joey on Thu Jun 07, 2007 3:43 am

I have a question. I am on my 11th day of the Exclusive IBD Remission Diet. I am following it to the letter just as the book, "The IBD Remission Diet" prescribes. When I started, I was hemorrhaging every day, every time, and still am... very liquid bms. I have UC. My doctor is aware and has approved of me going on the IBD Remission Diet diet for 6 weeks or more.

My question is: how long did it take Jeni on the IBD Remission Diet before her hemorrhaging slowed significantly or stopped? I only ask this because I'm still struggling with it. I hope someone can answer this question in a timely fashion. I am taking 4 Asacols and 1 immu a day. Thanks..

Sincerely,
Joey

Hi Joey,

First of all, I need to point out that you are probably not "hemorrhaging" - this is extreme, unstoppable bleeding that often results in death.

So, let's assume you're experiencing ongoing bleeding.

The first thing you need to figure out is where the blood is coming from - your colon, rectum, fissure, internal hemmorrhoids? See pages 91 and 99 and 132 in LTYG to figure this out, because the treatment (also on those pages and following) is different depending on where the blood is coming from.

I followed the IBD Remission Diet the first time following a severe bout of colonic bleeding (yes, hemmorhaging - I needed 6 pints of blood) and I continued to have mild bleeding the entire 6 weeks on the diet. The bleeding did not stop completely until I began reintroducing solid foods.

Next, Asacol often causes bloody diarrhea. So, until you've weaned off that, you won't know if that is the culprit.

Hope that helps,
Jini
