More attacks on vitamins...

Hi Jini and Nicole,
Seems like it's a daily battle with BigPharma. I wanted to give a heads-up about the attack on DHEA. I've posted the link "www.lef.org" before - it's the easiest place to follow these issues. In the middle column as you scroll down there's a list of important issues (e.g. bills before Congress). LEF has a great article defending DHEA and pointing out the blatant conflict of interest btw the lead researcher on the lone study circulating through Congress calling into question DHEA's safety and claiming it's an anabolic steroid. There are other issues called out on the site worth defending too with a few simple key/mouse clicks.
Now there's an attack on multi-vitamins because they supposedly increase prostate cancer risk. I can't wait to read LEF's rebuttal on this one - probably another flawed study.

Regards,
Brett

I've taken DHEA myself and found it very useful at the time - didn't need to be on it for long either before my hormones balanced themselves.

After extended breastfeeding of my second child (conceived only 4 months after weaning my first child!) my hormones were really out of whack. I was cold all the time, and couldn't gain weight. Within 2 days of taking Armour Thyroid, DHEA, and natural progesterone cream I was no longer cold and began gaining weight.

Anyway, you'll see this with every really effective supplement. It's too threatening to the drug companies and they lose too much money. I'm just dreading the day they go after wild oregano! Thank god it's still under the radar!

I know, the whole thing is enough to make your blood boil.

One of my daydreams for years has been to move somewhere that I have enough land that I can produce everything I need, myself. Just totally the self-sufficient thing. Of course, I know this is more of a defensive reaction, not that I'd necessarily truly enjoy doing all that work! And not that it would do anything to solve the situation at large.

Thanks for sharing that website. It does seem like a good one for staying abreast of issues....

It's definitely frustrating and I've had similar dreams. The bill finally made it to the house. Last I checked there's a lot of momentum behind it because of scare tactics, but one promising aspect is that DHEA was exempted in a similar bill in 2004. Perhaps, they'll be enough resistance that they'll be forced to leave it out of the anabolic steroid definition. There's still time to vote so please pass on the word where you can...

It's really nuts that if I was to have a bottle of DHEA in my luggage and got stopped at the border to Canada, that the Canadian officials could throw me in jail for having contraband. I pray the same doesn't happen here. It goes much further than DHEA - it opens the door to attacks on anything else BigPharma sees as slicing too much into their profits.
