Red lined eyes

Postby Erin on Sun May 13, 2007 7:17 pm

Hi Jini,

I noticed today and for the past couple of weeks the edges of my eyelids right around my eyes are reddish. Sometimes it goes away, sometimes it's there. Is that a sign of anemia or something else? I'm supplementing with Ferrabsorb and a multivitamin (the prenatal one you recommend) in my AbsorbPlus shakes, but is there something more I should do?

Thanks so much for any and all help.

Hi, Erin.

To introduce myself, I'm Nicole and I act as the moderator on the forum.

Sorry I waited awhile before responding, but I really wanted to give myself some time to think about your question.

The truth is, there are a lot of things that COULD be causing the redness, but I really can't say what IS. But here are a few questions/suggestions.

The most important is, what is your own gut feeling about the redness? When you have an illness, it's easy to become hyper-attuned to our own bodies and notice every little thing. I'm making a general statement here, not pinning it on your personally. But if you do recognize a tendency in this direction in yourself, try to go beneath it. What's at bedrock when you take some time out and sit quietly and let the answer come? Way deep down, do you think the symptom is serious or harmless?

If you think it's serious, obviously you need to seek more help. Whether you seek it from an MD or a naturopath or a different kind of practitioner is, of course, up to you.

If you're having a Crohn's flare and experiencing eye symptoms at the same time, the two can certainly be related. There is some information on eye inflammation in Chapter Two of LTYG. (Look in the index.)

I can't honestly say I've ever heard of anemia causing the symptom you describe. But again, if you feel, deep down, that there's a connection, please don't discount it because no one else has found the same thing. Listening to your gut involves trusting it and acting on what it tells you.

It could also be an allergen or environmental irritant.

But again, please listen to your gut. That's more important than anything I can say.

If you feel that the symptom is not serious, but it simply bothers you, try EFT on those feelings. Also, you can try EFT on the symptom itself, for that matter. (If you're not already familiar with EFT, please see the website www.emofree.com. You can download a free manual and there is also an excellent free newsletter you can sign up for.)

Hey Nicole,

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

I personally don't think it's anything serious, because I feel fine, just a little tired sometimes. I guess it's just that it looks a little weird, so that makes me think it might BE weird. I also wear contacts so maybe it's related to that.

I'll try EFT on it and do some more quiet reflection and see what happens.

Again, thank you for your help! All your advice you give on this forum is always so well thought out and thorough and it is clear that you genuinely care about helping us like Jini is.

Hi Erin,

My father is an optometrist (eye doctor) and here's what he said:

"sounds like she has blepharitis. An Optometrists should be able to check out her eyelids and lashes and determine what type of blepharitis it is. It usually requires extra lid hygiene...clean lids thoroughly (with lid cleansing pads) or she can use baby shampoo and Q tip. After cleaning apply a very thin coat of olive oil along the lash margin ( make sure it does not go into the eyes) and this will preventing crusting deposits next morning. Should clean lid margins twice a day and in three or four days redness should disappear.
Second cause could be an allergy but this will be accompanied by itching, watery discharge etc....."

hope that helps.
