Head Start on IBD Remission Diet

Postby AddieBW on Fri Sep 01, 2006 10:38 pm

I recently received the new revised copy of Listen to Your Gut and began reading it and am really very excited to have found this program. I have been in a horrible flare of Ulcerative Colitis since last November and I have been admitted to the hospital 3 times since March! I've had blood transfusions, I've been in ICU, I've had complications involving my heart and lungs, etc... I've been through it all, so to have found this program is such a relief being that I'm only 19 years old!

Anyway, I immediately ordered the IBD Remission Diet book after seeing how great this program sounds, hoping that the IBD diet will get my bleeding and diarrhea under control. (by the way, I am currently trying to get off my prednisone and Imuran as well). However, the book is taking awhile to get here (I ordered it used) and I wanted to go ahead and get started ordering the AbsorbPlus and whatever else I need for the diet so I can get started healing right away?

Can anyone clue me in on what a good list of things to go ahead and order might be to get me set up for the IBD Remission Diet (i.e. AbsorbPlus, probiotics, MucosaHeal, etc...)?

Thank you so much!

supplies

Hello Addie,

I just pulled our book off the shelf to check out the supply list. You'll need to order enough Absorb Plus for the duration of your program. The Absorb Plus web site has a handy calculator to determine the quantity. Also, did you order a free sample? Call the phone number on the Absorb Plus web site and ask for a free sample. They will be most happy to mail you one. I also ordered enough MusocaHeal for a few months as well. We just now bought the Fissure Heal, but have yet to try it.

From your health food supplier (or Jini's on-line store) you'll need to buy these supplements to add to your Absorb Plus shakes: CoQ10, Pycnogenol, Bioflavonoids, and Iron. You sound like you may need extra Iron and B vitamins because of your hemoglobin levels. These supplements are easiest if they are in capsule form so you can open them up and dump them into your shake. You may substitute Grape Seed Extract for the Pycnogenol. The Bioflavonoid Supplement should contain 50 mg each: Rutin, Hesperidin and Quercetin.

I buy a biflavonoid brand that is not in that proportion. It' called Quercetin Complex by Solgar. CoQ10 is expensive but I found that Trader Joe's carries it for less than my health food store. You may not have Trader Joe's? I buy the Ferrasorb Iron from the online store: HealthyGiving.com.

Also, from your health food supplier you'll need to buy George's Always Active Aloe Vera Juice, UDO's Choice Oil, Probiotics and the Vitamin C Supplements. Jini recommends Emergen-C (Alacer Corp.) . I found this product at Trader Joe's. It's Yummy. Don't know if you have that shop but it was less expensive there than my health food store.

While you are on the IBD Remission program you may struggle against temptation for "real" food. Having the broth, chewing gum, eating gummy bears, and eating homemade jello may help to break up the monotony. If you work or go to school everything can be made transportable. The most challenging part is the first week or two. After that it is almost a relief to be on the program because you'll be feeling better.

You sound like a proactive young woman! I am the mother of a 14 year old boy who has been dealing with crohn's for the past two years. He has tried the IBD remission twice, and both times really helped to get his crohn's under control. He had to have a blood transfusion too.

My son has never tried the Wild Oregano Oil Protocol. I think there are some posts on this topic somewhere in this discussion forum.

Best Wishes For You On Your Journey To Health.

Hello Karen,

Thank you so much for all the information! Yes, I do have a Trader Joe's in my town so that is very helpful to know the products I can get there. I have now been able to order everything and it should arrive around the same time I get my IBD Remission Diet book! I cannot wait to get started!

 I found a website that sells a good amount of the recommended products on Jini's site for very low, wholesale discounted prices. If you are interested in checking it out, the website is www.vitacost.com
I saved a lot of money by ordering the supplements from them! And they only charge $4.99 for standard shipping, no matter how much you order.

Thank you again for all your help and I hope your son is doing well.

Hi Addie,
I am just finishing my second week on the IBD remission diet, I have colitis as well and I"m 22 and been through alot with it as well... so just wanted to say good luck with it and be patient, because I think it takes longer than you might think. Also, I've found that the absorb plus shakes taste best mixed together, the chocolate and vanilla mix is my favorite. I hope it goes well!
