Absorb Plus

Postby Tina on Mon Jun 12, 2006 3:02 am

Hi Guys

I was wondering if any of you are on Absorb Plus at the moment? I just started taking it yesterday and was wondering how long it takes for it to have a positive impact. For the past few weeks I have been getting up several times in the middle of the night to go to the loo and I would love this to stop. Also does the bleeding stop soon after taking Absorb Plus?

Anyone who can provide me with some insight , I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
Tina

Hi Tina,
I just started two days ago on the absorb plus diet as well and I am wondering the same thing. I am still experiencing bleeding and getting up in the night, but im pretty sure it takes a couple weeks to feel better. I just thought i'd let you know i'm doing it too if you need any motivation!

Hello,

My 14 year old has crohn's and he tried the IBD Remission program, using the Absorb Plus, for 3 weeks last year. It took 3 days for the bleeding to stop and about 2 weeks for the diarrhea to subside. After using the Remission Diet things were pretty calm until this summer. At the beginning of the summer his crohn's grew out of control (bleeding and 20 BMS per day) and subsequently he followed the IBD Remission program for about 6 weeks. This time it took almost 2 weeks for the bleeding to stop, but the bleeding lessened after the first week. It took almost 3 weeks to get the diarrhea to slow down to 6-8 BMs per day. He desperately needed to gain weight and he did last year using the Absorb Plus. He has supplemented his diet using the Absorb Plus, but when the BMs were up to 20 he kept loosing weight, no matter how much he was taking in. We believe that the Mucosa Heal and Aloe Juice have helped to heal the mucosa lining. Also, getting emotional support has made a huge difference. He is seeing someone who performs Healing Touch and he is watching the EFT CDs.

Best Wishes On Your Journey To Health!

HI karen-
Thanks for your response, that definetely gives me hope. I was wondering how you decided how long for your son to go on the elemental diet, did you just go on how he wasfeeling? I was also wondering what you think abou the EFT tapes? Do you think they are worth getting?
Thanks alot,

Amy,

Jini describes the process by which to determine the duration of following an elemental feed starting on page 29 in her book, "The IBD Remission Diet." If you don't yet have that book, I highly recommend it because it makes the diet clear and easy to follow. Her recommendations are backed up by independent research, which she sites, and many of the studies are easy to find on the web.

My son finds it very difficult to follow the diet and he really doesn't enjoy drinking the Absorb Plus shakes. I, on the other hand, think they are pretty good. When he stopped the program after only 3 weeks, he stopped because he wanted to fit into the school scene and didn't want to have shakes there. At that time when he started back up on solid food he felt good and his BMS were formed, for the first time, in almost a year. We followed the Food Reintroduction Chart and discovered many foods that caused problems like gluten & dairy.

This most recent adventure into the IBD Remission Program was because nothing else was working for him and his Crohn's was way out of control. Previously he had tried Remicade and it failed to do anything expect make things worse. His body rejected all food. He struggled to gain weight even while drinking 4 Absorb Plus Shakes each day (his weight was 68 pounds). So while he was about 4 weeks into the IBD Remission Program he was admitted into the hospital for Tube Feedings. He was 6 weeks on the Elemental Feed but also getting nutrition directly to the blood stream.

Recently, he has just begun to eat solid food again. This time we are doing something all our doctors warned against: Raw Food. I juice vegetables. He eats raw avocado, tomato and yellow squash. He eats raw butter and raw honey. He eats raw meat and raw dairy. So far he seems to be tolerating most everything. Although, last week he experimented with drinking a shake made with raw honey, raw egg and raw cow milk but it made him feel nauseous. His BMs increased from 6 to 10 per day. We stopped that. I tried giving him raw sheep milk this week and this milk seems to be tolerated well. He is back down to 5 or 6 BMs per day and there has been very little blood.

The EFT DVDS are roughly made...not very slick. In a weird way I sort of like that about them. I do find the EFT technique helpful and think that would be worth the investment if you are self disciplined about practicing. It might be fun to watch with someone or even the whole family.

Good Luck,
